Power exists without violence. It's the ability to act. Violence can stifle power, but it's expensive. There's nothing wrong with being prepared for violence.

There are a lot of problems with trying to achieve social and political goals in today's world. The ethical issue is the least of them.
First is that the enemy is simply a lot better at it than you. He has a vast network of means of production and an unlimited supply of NPCs to throw at you. His tech is better. He's organized and efficient. The mere threat of violence will get him what he wants 99% of the time because rational, civilized people recognize that the state's capacity for violence is nearly boundless.
Second, and probably most importantly, the enemy is a master at using your violence against you. This is why political violence is almost always accompanied by suspicion of false flag. Every act of violence directed at entrenched power is used as an excuse to expand the surveillance regime, to legitimize the growth of their capacity for directing violence at their own citizens. You need only look at the J6 circus to see how it plays in reality when even the hint of a shadow of a pretense of organized violence against their power structures will accomplish. Political dissidents jailed and whole suite of new surveillance powers, new domestic intelligence agencies, new tools of censorship, new ways to deploy violence against their opponents.
Lastly, it isn't 1776. The enemy isn't a monarch on the other side of the world. He's everywhere. In your neighborhood, your workplace, your family. We are hilariously outnumbered. His throat is too big to hold a knife too.
