It's true that many of us, in a certain age group and from certain geographies, attended TAG/GATE programs. I'm fascinated by the etiological details around that. I took a test in 6th grade and got in. Then I was promptly kicked out. I don't remember why.

I also got into something in 6th grade where we went to a university and listened to professors talk about things. I remember the microscope, the bunsen burners, and the things in jars, and also the smell, pungent.

I was in this and they did all kinds of "psychic" tests on me and gave me a dixie cup full of ? some pinkish liquid.
I have an interesting family tree, I am pretty sure they knew and wanted to see if I had the gift...which I did until shortly after this program.

Man, I loved gifted class. It was nice to have our own space for Whites where everyone was literate and actually cared about our education. Meanwhile, Tyrone down the hall still can't figure out how a belt works or that after 13 years of being out for menthols nog daddy isn't coming home.

I did TAG. I think the program at my grade school put a lot of emphasis on competition. The "winning" in the class room was compelling when I was younger but served to make me extremely arrogant by the time I was in middle school.

I still did okay in middle and highschool but didn't care to do homework any more. I would just wait for a test to "win" again at so my grades became mediocre and I never learned how to work hard at all.

I graduated college the same way (no homework, no class, high marks on tests and projects) which actually made me lose lots of confidence as I saw my peers getting better opportunities just by showing up.

I got engaged my senior year which helped me better my attitude towards work and finish my degree. I have a comfy job now and do not feel as much regret as I did through college. My social life is very normal.

I was in the Canadian version of these programs

I did somewhat poorly in University, but since graduating I’ve done very well for myself, mostly due to doing programming and web design as a hobby and convincing my boss at a warehouse I was working at in Uni to let me handle their servers and IT dept.
From then on I’ve been working pretty comfortably and now live with my wife in Alberta doing webdev and server support.
Ironically I got more use out of browsing Any Forums than going to school for a meme degree.

This was research on autism before they knew what autism was. The government had to determine if this new neurodivergent subset of humanity was a threat to their brainwashing scheme.
