Putin actually did something smart. He did what Gaddafi had tried to do. The thing that led to the US toppling Gaddafi in short order and utterly destroying Libya. He pinned the ruble to gold, and now the Petrodollar is left flailing. While I understand full well this basically ensures decades of economic suffering for the US and the certainty of the CIA attempting to kill Putin by utilizing controlled unrest and the possibility of a global war initiated by the US to reassert its hegemony, it was a smart move.
