Nuclear is unsafe as fuck. Look at all the radioactive smog being emitted from these chimneys. Also it takes a billion years for radioactive waste to be safe. The future is in renewables.

It already is actually. In the past 5 or 6 decades the safety of nuclear energy has been shilled in a variety of circles. The left likes it, the right likes it, people with the slightest interest in science like it, even the poor like it as it'd make electricity cheaper.
Opinion down the line differ, as some view nuclear as a transitionary means of energy production, but I don't think anyone sane would really be against nuclear energy right now.

Nah, most of the people against it hate it for the sake of hating it and the rationalizations don't matter.
Of course, they can be overruled or silenced if the need becomes great enough, but nuclear power plants take a long time to build.

I just wish there was a bigger push to make solar more efficient. I'd love to own a Ford F-150 Lightning and put a solar panel tonneau cover over the bed to passively charge my truck. Can you imagine that shit? That would be the ideal post-apocalyptic vehicle. People would be coming from all around just to get rides from me.

I really love the idea of living by a large stream and having a watermill that powers a generator in a cabin, too. The idea of natural methods of generating electricity are really exciting to me, because I rely on electricity for so much but it's one of those things that would be nice to have some sort of sufficient survival backup for.

I've got the guns, ammo, the emergency food stock, water, $300 pond water filtration system, meds, first aid, batteries, lighters, and I've been building a small library of physical media and enough shit to keep me entertained for the rest of my life... The only thing missing is an alternative electricity source. Gonna build a backup battery grid for my house sometime this year, but I really want to find a natural way to charge it if need be.

Any ideas?

If you have the starting investment you can have a capable energy supply with car batteries, solar panels and a few 300w windmills that are compact enough to set up as long as your energy needs aren't ridiculous with a bunch of pointless shit draining power.

Iv been thinking about using wind with solar, we have a lot of overcast days which would result in little energy production but we sure as hell get a lot of wind. So hopefully a combination of the two could provide power to at least run lights and a couple of sockets for charging small devices.
