You'd think so by reading surface level information about him but anybody that was around in 2014 when Crimea/initial Donbass War happened knows how much of a LARPer joke he is.
He was part of the counter-terrorism unit of the FSB up until like 2012. Then he went on his LARP crusade as soon as Crimea happened and he did such a terrible job in Donbass (responsible for losing Sloviansk) that he immediately went into exile back in 2014 and hasn't been back since. Nobody takes anything he has to say seriously. He's also been an over the top pessimistic doomer since then so any claims that he makes about failure should be taken with a grain of salt as he's been doomsaying for the last 8 years.

If you think the Northern front is getting routed you're either blind or retarded. That front has been nothing more than a distraction front since Day 3. The moment the Ukrainian military didn't collapse was the moment taking Kyiv without hundreds of thousands of troops on that front alone became impossible.
If the Ukrainians couldn't stop the Russians from taking Mariupol (they couldn't) then they need to stop them from taking Donbass, which is what is going to be attempted next. If they fail to do that, then they have to stop the Russians from advancing from the Donbass towards west of Kharkiv. If they fail to do that then they have to stop them at Sumy, then Chernihiv, etc.
Every subsequent objective the Russians achieve, the war becomes easier for them and harder for the Ukrainians because the Russian fronts will continuously snowball into each other and make things extraordinarily harder for the Ukrainians to defend. If Donbass falls, all of a sudden western Kharkiv has to defend against the current Russian troops attacking the city, the SE Kharkiv front that is currently fighting in the Izyum direction, the N Zaporizhzhia front, the LPR and the DPR.
