You can also read something that is probably similar to what your local lodge does, tho there is no standard ritual, but the grips/passwords are semi-standard.
Today we hear a lot about how it used to be a "man's world" in the 40s, 50s, 60s, etc. but it was not. If your wife did not want you going out to bars, you did not. So, there are drinking clubs. Historically, the function was to allow men to meet "on the level" and to enable men to have a sense of fraternity and to understand whom they could trust with secrets, etc.
If you are interested in it, joining is probably the best idea. The dues are not that much, and, like any institution, you can only get out of it what you put into it.
They are desperate for members, btw, Masonry peaked in most parts of Canada in the 1960s and has been steadily declining since. There are all sorts of benefits if you are elderly, even if there are not so many brothers anymore, they often have access to funds if you get cancer, and there are masonic retirement homes, etc.
