Fertility is like a boom and bust cycle because you select for different things at different times. Fertility peaks at different times based on where you are in the cycle. Example: the French peaked in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s and reached its rock bottom in the early 1900’s. French birth rates (yes ethnic French not migrants) slowly have climbed above, say Germany since Vichy. England peaked after France, and Germany after England.
Fertility is selected for in the boom cycle, afterwards they selected for high IQ and less kids to fit in an urban cosmopolitan environment. When your birth rates are in collapse you stop selecting for IQ and start to select for breeders over the span of 100-150 years (you are here if you’re French, Dutch, or live in the Anglosphere as a white).
