EU defence pact is extremely vague, basically just giving "aid and assistance by all the means in their power", which can basically mean sending some thoughts and prayers. Wouldn't bet my life on that one.

the thing with EU membership is that while it might provide some de iure security guarantees via the article 42.7 of lisbon treaty, in effect this does not equate the same level of protection that the Nato article 5 does. While the specific wording of both is equally ambiguous, the Article 5 is universally understood to be about mutual defence, but with the article 42, there really isnt any consensus and it might ultimately mean much.
Not to mention the even more important and obvious factor - Article 42 does not include US, but Article 5 does.

I dont think we are going to join NATO and i also dont think joining would be a good idea.
Pros:
1. If joining is succesful it would decrease the chance of Russia attacking Finland in a war that is not a part of WW3.

Cons:
1. The chances of Russia attacking Finland in a war that is not a part of WW3 are very small, meaning the only good thing about joining is negated.
2. It would increase the likelyhood of Russia attacking before we succesfully join, possibly causing the only thing it was trying to prevent.
3. It guarantees us a spot in WW3 wherever it happens and whenever it happens and whatever the reason for it is, we can no longer have any say on this matter.
4. Its not free, do people not know this?
5. Sending our units to other countries would not only weaken our own defences but also reduce the moral of out troops reducing their effectiveness, i for example would refuse to go fight in Ukraine for example, our conscription, tactics, equipment and morale are all tied to homeland defence.
6. It would have an impact on our relations and trade with Russia who is our closest neighbour.
7. We would be under more pressure to do other changes in the future.
8. Probably more cons but i cant bother thinking about it anymore, i got my point across.
