But then again, the Balkanization of Russia might lead to the Balkanization of US and China. Today, most seperatist movements have an ethnic components. Even those that don't necessarily have one like Bavarian one, will pretend it is the case. To elaborate, Bavarian Independence is rooted in giving more money than it receives, but mentioning that is hard so its supporters pretend that Bavarian is ethnically different from German. There are differences in accent. But the idea that Bavarians are ethnically different from the rest of German is a relatively new idea. Other than US South, and maybe Alberta, I can't think of any non-ethic seperatism, or those that don't pretend to be as such. The Balkanization of Russia, because of the way the population is spread out, there will inevitably be countries with the same ethnicity being seperated. Some places can try to distance themselves. Maybe the Kuban region will push forward its Cossack past. But it might not always work.

This might open a Pandora's box where the seperatism doesn't necessarily have to be ethnic.
