Putin is honestly the most overrated leader on the planet. He was hailed as some kind of political genius by boomers on the right wing but in reality his foreign policy has been as consistently stupid as it has been erratic. I mean there is no way to look at Syria or the Ukraine and not see him being a failed dictator. He is the worst in my estimation of all Russian leaders and it is a testament to how far Russia has fallen that Putin has been so successful in keeping his power.
Putin has now done so much damage to Russia that even his reign may be ending as the country is in chaos, and basically no one in Russia, even the billionaire gangsters he hangs around with, think he's a good leader anymore. Putin has ruined Russia's economy, corrupted its police and legal systems and poisoned the minds of its people.
What he has done is not very different from the things thugs like Mugabe, Saddam or even Stalin did in their own countries.
He is a perfect example why there should have been a mechanism to limit years in power.

His intention was obvious yes, to fracture NATO. He has achieved the total opposite of that though. In invading Ukraine Putin has actually created the NATO he was worried about and managed to lose a chunk of his gas exports to Europe.
