I'm a telecom engineer. I know just about everything there is to know about how the towers in my area work and have been involved in setting them up as part of field services observation. Anything I don't know about various components I can literally ask the people who designed them, because I know most of them as well (I work directly with people from Ericsson, NTT, NEC, etc. or their alumni).

5G is a compilation of telecom standards -- the basic drive of it is to make "wireless" become basically wifi speed, and this requires a *lot* of towers because 5G bands have much lower range than the older, slower ones like LTE, 3G, etc.
The place where the conspiracy theories went off the rails was with "they want to control you with 5G". This seems to have come from two sources (and I find it interesting how they interact in the conspiracy world): 1. The CCP really does have a massive sigint campaign to push below-cost equipment on municipalities all across the world to adopt Huawei equipment. Buying from Huawei is basically buying from the CCP military -- so you should not be surprised at all that they are spying on you, bribing your officials with money and young pussy, and you should be absolutely suspicious of them. Huawei didn't even invent anything -- they conducted a years-long industrial espionage campaign against Ericsson, which Ericsson was largely unprepared for. 2. There is some legit tech still in development for controlling medical nanotech by wireless signals -- though I don't know the details on this.
Somehow these two real ideas conspired to the idea that "5G is how they will mind control you!"
My feeling on that is this is the midwit phenomenon in action: Retards and geniuses come to the same *basic* conclusion ("5G dangerous") but for very different reasons, while midwits go along with whatever the fake media tells them to believe.
None of this is the fault of 5G per se.
