Well I was trying to understand what Russia stands for ideologically as a country and it seems as though their belief system and Putinism which has been largely since his inception as the President, are essentially fascists of some decree; but this doesn't entirely make sense, really, with the West and Russia both claiming that each other are "Nazis" to some extent.

No, not really. As shizo it sounds, all periods of our history from Pagan times, Kievan rus, through Romanovs, Soviets and now are seamlessly connected into one.
