There are multiple different symbols in use.
These symbols denote their area of operation.
V is used by forces north of Kiev on the west side of the Dnieper river.
O is used on vehicles east of the Dnieper covering a rather large front from north east of Kiev to Sumy. What is curious is that the O is generally painted on the roofs of the vehicles rather than the sides. Suggesting they are intended for aerial identification.
The Z inside a box is used by forces advancing around the Kharkiv area.
The Z on its own is used near exclusively by forces advancing from the south via Crimea.
These symbols have no particular meaning and are basically just for identifying allied forces. Since the Ukraine has a lot of Russian equipment its going to be difficult to tell with any certainty if a vehicle is friend or foe and this is a low tech solution thats been used by armies even in the modern era. An example is US forces putting orange tarps over the tops of tanks and APCs during the invasion of Iraq.
