War seldom goes to plan and 2 weeks vs 4 weeks isn’t a huge deal. Things obviously are not going well for Russia and they are encountering more resistance than they anticipated.

Russia doesn’t want all of Ukraine because their economy cannot handle that. If they can cause enough pain to get Ukraine to relinquish Donbas and pledge no NATO membership than that is their win.

Donbas is 60,000 km2, that’s like West Virginia. Not a bad gain but is it worth the billions loss due to sanctions? Time will tell.
