Key difference: Ukraine could easily join NATO within the next 2-3 years and the EU as well, which means a NATO armored deployment and US airspace shutdown. With Russia's air capability crippled Crimea is recaptured using ground forces and the Russian navy is forced to dock elsewhere.
Even then, fertilizer is easier to replace than gas. If the west is willing to live without Russian oil products then the west can start eating organic corn again. Most fertilizer is made exclusively for ranching anyway, so worst case scenario is that meat prices rise. Most Americans won't notice when Mcdonalds makes their chicken burgers cheaper than their beef ones.

The average Iraq war veteran is an overweight truck driver who is busy working and not obsessing over weapons he will never shoot. Same for the average Afghan war veteran, most of us have moved on because we went to college, graduated, and have better careers now. You know that's why people join the military right? So they can go to college and get a real job. Any sort of person who obsesses over weapons will just do that anyway, you don't need to blow up ragheads for that.
I'm not worried about the average veteran. I'm worried about the 5% that is high IQ, disaffected, suffering from PTSD, and are aware that their friends were sent to their deaths for Israel and profit.
