It is an alternate event if someone has a permanent profile. Say a knee injury of some kind. It may prevent you from combat arms, but it doesn't necessarily lock you out of the military in say combat support. The new PT test had no way to deal with people who had a profile.

The tuck was removed because women could not pass it. Like the majority of even young fit women could not pass it. Since the entire thing is supposed to be gender/age neutral that created a problem. Do you keep it as is, or do you add a different event or give up on the 'everyone has to perform the same' ideal. They went with a replacement event.
