I literally don't give a flying fuck about Russia or Ukraine. Russia had plenty of reason to be pissed about NATO. Ukraine has plenty of reason to shit on an invasion on their sovereign nation.
When this started I was mostly just going to enjoy getting some cool modern media coverage of some slavs blyating each other.
But how is Russia so fucking retarded at this point? Ukraine literally had fuck all for military power in 2014 when Russia basically walked into Crimea and said "mine" with little resistance. Then Russia backs separatists groups making them strong enough to cause a significant prolonged conflict that besides Crimea leads Ukraine to enlist and train a 200k+ standing active military as well as investing in equipment. A large portion of this military gets genuine peer on peer battle hardened combat experience through border fighting for 8 years.
Russia's active ~280k standing military is primarily untrained conscripts. The only experienced military they have are mostly from shitty conflicts of a vastly inferior and unsupported foe (ie: Syria) where they had very little real resistance.
They didn't hammer down on the corruption/embezzlement of the massive military budget in preparation in those years either if anything it seems it only got worse. I mean FFS ALGERIA of all countries upgraded all ~90 of their Mig29's to the newest targeting system by 2017. Russia supposedly only managed to upgrade 60 of their ~600 Mig29's to the current date and it's their own tech they created in 2009. Just a small example I've found but it shows the skewed shit that is happening at every level of their military.
Russia literally created the Ukraine military powerhouse and totally overlooked preparing to fight their own creation. They could of just kept going in 2014 and Putin would be enjoying his premium Ukraine pussy right now. Instead he gave even greenest of soldiers the will to fight Russkies and NATO a reason to shower them with support.

i'm still monitoring the fsb letter situation. so far, none of the major predictions by the person writing them have come true, and the one on japan is especially wild. some of the news coming out of russia indicate that at least some of it is true, e.g. the supposed internal conflict between the FSB and the heads of the russian government, the japan letter being sent *before* ww2 peace talks with japan were halted, the propaganda campaign against poland on russian tv and the increase in violence against civilians in occupied cities. i can't tell whether they're just true by nature of being predictions that are easy to make correctly by accident. that said, i continue to believe that they're not written by a civilian. they're more likely to be one of the three following things: - it's an FSB person that doesn't have a full overview of what's going on and is speculating a lot. this is confirmed by christo grozev from bellingcat, who said that he thinks that the letters are real, but that FSB agents tend to speculate a lot about what's going on above them and that they tend to err on the side of conspiracy theories. - it's an FSB person that is actively trying to spread disinformation - it's western propaganda that pretends to be FSB
