The reason most Americans start paying ludicrous payments on their medical bills is because they literally don't know they can just keep on throwing up their hands when talking to the hospital talking about how poor they are, and eventually the hospital will have to settle on a payment amount you put forth. You can literally (easily, mind you) bring it down to single digit monthly payments. Sure, you're going to technically pay that monthly bill for your entire life, but it's so small it might as well not exist. Most of our population has manipulated into thinking you have to pay whatever monthly payment the hospital puts forward, so you get fucked up shit like people ruining their lives over medical bills.
