California has had pay by cash at the pump for like 25 years. You just stick in bills like a vwndong.machine. (some have a main kiosk in the middle that takes cash and you select what pump you're at, other stations have each pump take the cash).

for what it's worth, working at a gas station in a small rural community is fun. Everyone becomes your friend, you never have to worry about getting robbed, it's very laid back. Go out back and smoke a blunt with one of the cool regulars.
