The study tested 785 participants aged 51-81 (lmao) and scanned them twice. Also, the study looked at the individuals who caught the initial variant of the virus during the first year of the pandemic, which was more damaging and is virtually nonexistent as a variant.
I'm going to wager that older people exposed to a more dangerous variant of the virus are more likely to suffer complications. Given this is the UK, they were also likely fat.
They should have studied younger subjects and accounted for factors including weight that make a significant difference in how the virus impacts the body.
