it's not unrealistic either, given that they're using "inefficient" outdated farming methods (don't poison the soil and groundwater) and don't contribute much to the consumerist economy.

I get the idea of what you're trying to say, but living like an amish without owning/renting land near/around an amish commune is pretty hard. Gaining the money to own/rent land without using some forms of capitalist products is pretty hard too. Also the amish are participating in capitalism at least on some level.

The Amish lifestyle is still largely dependent on outside factors. The biggest though is starting the lifestyle itself. Land is exorbitantly expensive, finding people willing to give it all up is damn near impossible, and that's on top of relying on the security of your government that protects your land from people that could very easily just kill you to take it.

this does not take into account that they need fertile lands to keep their expansion going and they might get exodus'd again (see russia for example). picrel shows the recent growth. there's a lot more anabaptist settlements in south america where I think in the future they will grow more freely than in america.
the amish and anabaptists are not regular christians. they are unironically more jewish than most jews in many good ways.
