Nothing. It's just an easy way for Russian units to identify one another in the field, to avoid friendly fire incidents. The USA did the same thing in the Gulf War, painting an upside-down V on US military vehicles and armor. This is particularly useful when the enemy operates a lot of the same vehicles you do.
