haplogroups are only a y chromosome marker passed down paternally. they only tell us which men share a common ancestor and do not have any known effect physically. for instance a black person could have the r1a haplogroup but still be black for the most part and vise versa. a better way of finding genetic similarity would to to look at autosomal dna because it accounts for the entire genome rather than one singular genetic marker.
