It doesn't. That's a bad model, as with most of theoretical science. It's a cloud with infinite points of observance. Electrons don't spin around the nucleus in predictable patterns.

OP's model is an outdated oversimplification of the structure of an atom.
Carbon is the only atom that really "looks" (behaves) like a Jewish Star of David (Remphan), and that's only because it is of Atomic Number 6 (due to its 6 protons).
Carbon IS pretty special though because it can bond to so many other atoms simultaneously, hence it forming the basis for all life on Earth.

It doesn't. They just show the outdated Bohr model because the average Joe doesn't understand quantum physics. Electrons are not tiny balls orbiting a nucleus. They're standing waves rippling through the electron field, which have the properties of waves, but can sometimes be bounced around as if they were particles.
