They have degrees because if you have a college degree and then join the military you can start off as a commissioned officer. So yeah there's a lot of dipshits who get some fucking basket weaving degree and then join up so they can suck off the government teat for 10 years and get a bigger pension.

Come out of what? The officer corps? Quite a few. I know a lot of officers that have started companies, particularly software companies, but they got out the minute their commitment was up so the achievement isn't attributed to the military.

Presuming a coherent philosophy and objective, I would say the military and government want to project force globally and play cold war tactics of trying to subvert other rising world powers through allying or supplying the smaller states around them, influencing them to be antagonistic towards other world powers like Russia and China. Objectives and strategy involves supreme firepower and bombing infrastructure into submission with the end goal of uh, convincing populations to be friendly with us and accept their puppet governor that we install.
