Why is post-secondary education so expensive in the US? It's still pricey in most parts of Canada (save for Quebec) but even then the US makes our tuition costs look cheap.

basic supply and demand

bush created a student loan guarantee. everyone who wants one gets one.

this resulted in a massive increase in enrollment. Demand went up, supply stayed the same, so colleges cranked up prices. Been going up like 10-20% per year since around 2007.

Even worse, colleges in the attempt to increase supply began hiring anyone and everyone to teach. They moved actual professors into masters and phd programs, while having adjuncts (mostly students working on their masters) teach most classes for the first three years of college. The result is a massive decrease in the quality of a bachelors education. Hence why having a bachelors is no longer of any benefit vs. a GED other than the ability to move onto a master's program which is now on par with having a bachelors 20-30 years ago.

it doesn't, and any time he has published one of his """papers""" it is thoroughly rebuked by anyone who got through middle school math. when an identity element in any system is applied to another element in some mathematical structure, you get the other element back. i.e. 1 times n is always going to give you n, if you take the integers and "group" them under multiplication as your operation. of course if your operation is addition, 1 is no longer an identity element -- your identity element changes to 0, because 0 is the element that when applied to any other element gives the other one back.. 0 + n gives you n. his explanations for why 1 multiplied by itself could possibly give 2 are circular and nonsensical.
this is the gist of his argument. another thing is that if you take 1 multiplied by 1 to be equal to 2, all of the logic of multiplication breaks and you can prove a bunch of absolutely nonsensical statements. try it, you could prove that 1 to the 6th power is 8. makes absolutely no sense.

Supply and demand. When obama flooded the university system with niggers that didn't deserve to be there - using our tax money to pay for their "education" - tuition skyrocketed. When you increase demand against a relative fixed supply, it's Economics 101. A course obama apparently failed at Harvard.

I actually read his papers, while the formalism is bad the thing that bothers him about 1x1=1 is actually a valid point. What he's looking for is probably the change of unit that comes with vector multiplication. For example, 1 inch x 1 inch = 1 inch^2. In which case 1 inch is not the identity since the inch basis vector is non-identity, but that's the source of the confusion, I think.
