Im not familiar with the details on this particular convoy, but Russia has a tactic some call "the cauldron". Which means you cover the enemy on all sides except for one large area. The idea is, if you apply enough pressure or heat, the enemy may want to run away and give up the territory they hold. If Russia were to cover them on all sides, then the enemy would become trapped, unpredictable and less likely to comply with capture (if a trapped enemy is captured, they are more likely to kill their captures and themselves with bombs for example).

Taking odessa from the sea is probably the very definition of "hard" from a military perspective. It's very well defended and the landing party is extremely vulnerable to enemy fire of all kinds, as well as probably landing on a mined beach. Why show your hand? Just wait for putin retards to come to you, to the slaughter.
