Joe Biden spoke for nearly two hours with Xi Jinping as the US sought to dissuade China from backing Russia’s war on Ukraine.
A White House account of the call on Friday said that the US president “described the implications and consequences if China provides material support to Russia as it conducts brutal attacks against Ukrainian cities and civilians”.
A senior administration official said Biden has warned there will be "unforseen and severe consequences, for both countries, should Russia continue to escalate”.
The official said Biden warned that China's “support for Russia's violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity will undermine [its] own peace and security”.
On the call, Biden said the “time to deal with Russia” is “now”

Biden had these words to say "Look, I made it clear to the, to the the Russian government, that they were going to face some really difficult days with me as president if they, they, if they continued the agressive use of force against the people of Ukraine in, in, in, that part of the world." Biden said, quote, "I told him, he, he, if, if he pursued a course like that, there would be serious consequences. And that is what happened. Look, now we're in a whole new world. This isn't the Cold War, folks, when I was growing up, Scranton, in Scranton every child, every single one of us in school we all had to learn, to hide under our desks and duck if the bomb blast was too strong. I don't want anyone of us, in school today, I just spoke to our great teachers unions last week, none of us should know that fear ever again, and as long as I, as I am your, the commander in chief, I will, I will never knowingly allow Americans to be in harm's way... I know how to keep the country safe, I also know that the United States is the greatest military power on Earth, I am proud to be a combat veteran, and I am committed to being your commander in chief and ensuring that you are protected in a dangerous world. Thank you."
Biden was then interrupted by an enthusiastic and raucous standing ovation. A sign of the times.

China & Russia are long standing trading partners, part of BRICS, and the Chinese feel the west has cast them in a poor light over the south China sea man made island turned into a military base. Not to mention the two Islands Japan and China argue over as well as the Taiwan succession situation.
