>start new job >working remotely >find it easy >after a few weeks my manager says I'm not being "engaged" enough with the team, people don't have confidence in me >says the solution is to do a bunch of vague stuff like talking more
Can someone explain this to me? I did well in school and university. I don't think I have a low IQ. I do the work and have done the work at all jobs I've been at. By all objective measures I do fine. But there is something in my demeanour, my personality, or my looks that makes normies absolutely despise me, that makes them have "no confidence in me" (I've heard this in multiple jobs from my manager, who doesn't say that they have no confidence in me, but they say other people told them), and at times makes them attempt to describe me as a failure in every single non-objective employee metric or requirement they can think of.
The attitude of every single senior employee I've worked with seems to be "Yes, you do the work, but you don't have the X factor necessary to be above the lowest rung." They don't say that outright but they say basically everything close to that.
Everything is a high school popularity contest. If you were a loser, don't work for companies. Start your own business or find a way to make your own money somehow.

Fucked and unfortunately true. The further away you get from being 13 the closer everyone else appears.

People who are pleasant to be around make for a more pleasant and less stressful work environment. A more pleasant and less stressful work environment makes for more productive workers. If you are around other people in any capacity at your job it is quite literally part of your job to be pleasant to be around. Did you somehow manage to forget the entirety of human history being about success through collaboration? Your IQ might not be as high as you think it is if you can't figure out the simple solution of "be more social".

it's kinda like a game, you gotta feign interest in others, the truth is nobody really gives a shit either but there is this unspoken rule in which everyone wears a happy mask and pretend they care, it's really weird but that's the way it is, introverted people have a hard time with this because they don't have the mask on automode, now i'm not saying you have to be the popular guy in the group but just pretend you care like become more proactive
if you're truly delivering everything you're being asked then it's 100% a social interaction issue, people don't like introverts in general it's like being ugly, it causes a subconscious negative feedback

They have no way to remember you by, Americans would solve this in a few ways.
>start going out of your way to do something well/frequently The downside of this is that you won’t be being compensated for your extra effort outside of maybe impressing your boss/coworkers
>just bring everyone donuts every other Friday or something. Probably no downsides to this, you become the indispensable donut/pizza guy at the cost of making friends with all the reddits at the office.
>stay a nerd This is a possibility, but you will become forgotten and be shuffled off into a corner for the rest of your life. If you are like me, this is ok and probably for the best.
Idk what solutions come to the British mind though.

tell your boss that you are there to do the job not socialize with randoms.
and tell the roasties who complain about having no confidence in you to mind their own business and not start drama.
Aiden Collins
And? That's your problem, not anyone else's responsibility to learn to deal with or cope with. It's unrealistic and childish to expect the world to cater to your needs.

I can't believe people are willing to put up with these unspoken terrorgames for literally their entire life
It's cuckoldry but on your personality, the most sincere and honest form of you, self censorship mixed with theatrics directed and written by the most prototypical hypernormie
Just start your own business and only hire authentic basedboys and girls and fuck that fake uppity corp culture

You're probably an avoidant creep incel. Get on the slack channel or whatever your team uses and actually work with your team. Ask for help, partner with people, learn what your coworkers are good at and leverage their experience. See if there are any work events and go to them.
Team cohesion is important. There are plenty of people who can "do the work" but are awkward weirdos with shitty attitudes and nobody likes them. You must understand that your people skills are marketable skills, often of equal importance to your actual on-the-job skills. Someone less skilled but better with people WILL get promoted over you, and for good reason.

Ask them how their days were, even though you don't care, refer to them by their names, make "harmless" dumb little jokes like puns and shit, if there's some gay little "happy hour" thing scheduled after work join in every once in a while. Sorry it's gotta be this way, spergotron.
