I wouldn't call the west a soft democracy at this point. It's just a bunch of WEF puppets going against the will of the majority.
However it's true that a democracy requires a large percentage of the citizenry capable of independent thought. Otherwise what would be the point in giving citizen's a say if they'll unthinkingly follow what their leaders tell them? A society with a citizenry who's been shilled (via k-12 education, tv, social media) out of the ability to think independently is functionally no different than an authoritarian society.
