So, in the army it was strictly forbidden to drink alcohol, it was forbidden for soldiers to smoke. There were cases when, due to smoking, even warriors who showed themselves perfectly on the battlefield were expelled.

And, of course, there was iron logic in this: after all, a smoking fighter is not able to withstand the enormous physical load that the fighters had to overcome daily. These were exercises to hone military skills, and physical exercises, including 10-kilometer runs through the mountains. The most amazing thing was that the 49-year-old commander not only did it on an equal footing with everyone, but even surpassed many young fighters. The most effective in education was the personal example of the commander, who always went into battle first. Strict discipline and physical activity, however, were not an end in itself: all this was aimed at the main goal - to minimize losses.

He thoroughly explained to each soldier all the details of the battle, and it is no coincidence that this strict, demanding and at the same time infinitely kind commander was an idol for his fighters.
When Leonid saw a fighter dozing in a trench, he sent him to sleep and himself became on duty instead of him. After that, the fighters tried to do everything possible so that this situation would not happen again.
Volunteers who came to Leonid Azgaldyan with the words that they were ready to die for the Motherland, he answered that he did not need people who decided to die, he needed those who were ready to live in the name of the Fatherland and fight for independence.
The following requirements were mandatory for the fighters: 1. It was forbidden to shoot at an unarmed person. 2. Robbery was prohibited in the liberated territories. 3. Smoking, alcohol consumption and profanity were prohibited. 4. Daily training was required.
