I actually don't think so. Back in around 2014/2015 I had a friend who was struggling with a drug and alcohol problem and I remember him saying how Russell Brand's books were really helpful to him and apparently Brand's got quite a following amongst former drug addicts, I guess because of his own history. He was quite well liked around that time for that reason and built up a decent following of people with a fair bit of respect for him.
I never paid much attention to him but I've been watching his videos recently and while I don't find his humour funny, he speaks very sincerely and actually changes his opinion if he realises he was mistaken. He communicates well and doesn't jump the gun into conspiracy territory. I think people are taking him seriously, as they should. He may be silly but he does strike me as a smart man.
