What is the point of NATO anyway? So they pressured Ukraine to join NATO, then right when Ukraine was about to join, Russia invaded. And now Ukraine is asking for help NATO says

Like what is the point? This should be when Ukraine officially joins NATO and we start WW3. It really feels like we are just letting the Ukrainians die for no reason. If we really wanted Ukraine in NATO there is no better moment than right now

I have none off the top of my head, but with the nato trying to put military bases in Ukraine (the reason for Russia starting this war) you'd think that would be a part of an agreement for Ukraine to be in NATO. Why would Russia complain about NATO being in Ukraine if it wasn't a possibility?

NATO as it was 40 years ago was a great idea. unfortunately it has been totally infiltrated by globohomo megacorp. In the beggining it was supposed to be the "North Atlantic" treaty. A very good idea. Essentially western Europeans.
One of the reasons why the allies were so successful in ww2, and seldom do historians remark on this, is that we combined our militaries and had a joint military command. British commanders had control over south africans or australians at times (western desert campaign), american commanders in charge of british units (think north Italian campaign, or Normandy). And it all ran very smoothly, because they all (or almost all) spoke a common langauge -- English. our militaries marched in synchronicity. it wasnt just "cooperation", it was full integration of the military command structure down to the unit level.
But sometime in the 80's NATO lost its way. They starting letting in everyone and thier dog. It became a huge bureaucratic nightmare, with substantial intelligence leaks. Nations like Germany, Poland, turkey should never have been admitted. perhaps a second and separate alliance should have been formed to allow these nations a mutaul defence network.
Now NATO seems to exist only to provoke other nations, completely dominated by the USA, and the "lesser members" are essentially obedient to America. Which was never how the Allied command worked. Britain and France were considered major powers then, and had a full seat at the table.
