Everytime Zelensky fails to make a deal he is sacrificing his own people. Riling them up with propaganda that makes them think they can win but only leaves them dead and dissapointed. The US wants this to take as long as possible. They don't care about Zelensky, Ukrainian citizens or the EU. They just want this to cost Russia as much as possible. Because they know Ukraine is going to lose. But they are pissed that they are losing all of their investments and that they can´t do anything else to stop it. They´ve thrown every sanction they can and aren´t dumb enough to confront russia directly. They are creating a massive loud shreeking media campaign of pro Ukraine propagande to influence the western world. But they thought the sanctions would hurt more and the Russians seem to give zero fucks and have tighter connections with the BRIC countries than expected. This will hurt the US in the long run and Ukrainian citizens who are being sacrificed for this bs now.
That seems like the only reason why Europe and the US keep throwing fuel on the fire instead of trying to deescalate the situation.

Putin will let get of 90% of his demands and will retreat with almost nothing gained except maybe Ukraine guaranteeing not to join NATO. Somehow he will spin this as a great victory but will look weak as shit both at home and abroad.
