Public transport is fucking rotten where I live (Scotland), it's expensive, late, slow and uncomfortable plus it's usually full of the absolute worst in society, this is why I prefer a car.

It’s this American car companies bought public transit in cities (trains+trolleys+streetcars) and destroyed it to make more room for automobiles.
This combined with the massive subsidies on gas and suburbs has made cars the main way to get around, to such a degree that even in large cities here you simply cannot get around without a vehicle. What use is a train between two cities when you can’t even get around said cities without a vehicle, much less on foot?
Stupid Americans will defend this because they don’t know any better. URBAN areas should not be built around automobile transport. We’re really shooting ourselves in the foot here and I’m laughing as gas (which is also a FINITE RESOURCE) gets more expensive. Electric cars are just a bandaid on a much larger problem. But our society is incredibly dysfunctional, what can be expected? We just gave a billion dollars to Ukraine to fight some decades old boomer USA-USSR dick measuring contest proxy war, on top of the 770 BILLION we spend on defense, and we “have no money“ for shit like education or healthcare.

The American people were sold cars as a luxury item. If you dont have a car then you're poor. If you use public transportation then you're poor. Even if you have no job or house but still live out of your car at least you're not poor.. We're some of the most vein people in existence.

We don't hate rail. We use it to ship freight. Our loading gauge is larger than European loading gauge, meaning our trains can be wider and taller than European trains. The way American rail traffic control is set up allows for uch longer trains than European. So, instead of passenger rail, we couple 4000 horsepower locomotives together and string hundreds of 100 ton freight freight cars into trains over a mile long and run them at 60 miles per hour for thousands of miles. American rail is about freight. Passenger rail is an afterthought.
