Why has "oligarch" become synonymous with being a wealthy russian? Dont other countries have oligarchs, too? You never hear the term when talking about american billionaires or japanese, etc.

Because oligarch implies they run the government.

It's debatable how much that applies to western billionaires but it certainly isn't as bad as Russia

>Dont other countries have oligarchs, too?
Yes they have, but Westerners are just hypocrite scumbags.

You mean people like: the Clinton, Bill Gates, Soros?

The west is ruled by oligarchs

Only one of those is a politician, and she isn't even close to a billionaire

you sure are stupid. The entire western world in run by oligarchs

Retard.

>Putin is a dictator
>Also Russia is ruled by businessmen
This is your brain on propaganda, folks.

It's a word play.
Same with invader-russia,liberator-usa

when did I say he was a dictator?

We got fucking loblaws. Jesus cant the fucking states just invade us already

everyone lives in a kleptocracy wether you're a nigger, a bugman, a spic or huwhite

Their oligarchs vs our elites, their corruption vs our lobbying, etc.

This is a valid thing to bring up but the reason Russia got branded with the term is that they went from pure socialism to capitalism and some people snagged up so much of that wealth and power and got to keep having their influence after this change that it was really easy to see what made them.

USA corporations and their rich have an incredible amount of soft power and lobbying which isn't 100% the same thing but also not that different.

To me one of the biggest things of note is that in Russia it's both that they own a ton of the businesses but also that they are mega corrupt. USA's big companies rely more on tax evasion and being internationally successful (under USA's protection and sometimes interference)

as opposed to your brain that can't even read

>It's debatable how much that applies to western billionaires
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
We got a live retard over here

Because Russian oligarchs got filthy rich during the privatization in the 90s and have the blessing of the state in exchange for their cooperation.

It’s whole different dynamic than in countries like America.

Russian oligarchs are overtly corrupt. They dont have stories of how they became wealthy, their usual background was random wageslave in USSR and a year later after the fall they owned large companies.

shut up vlad no one cares

No, other countries have entrepreneurs and philanthropists.
Only Russians have oligarchs

true. but the extent matters.
in denmark if they catch a politician buying a dinner on his work credit card he's gone. in russia you can steal billions with impunity because the people who are supposed to do something about it are also stealing or handled in other ways.

The term originated in the 90s, when they had way more influence. Putin cucked them out of political influence a few years into his first term.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semibankirschina

So why is Putin sharing his power with them? Why not throw them in jail and keep it all for yourself?

>Putin cucked them out of political influence a few years into his first term.
why lie?

wtf i love the fed and blackrock now

They are like ministers. For running large sectors of the economy at a profit they earn a percentage in profit. Different than an actual soviet minster that just had his salary and bribes and didnt care about the companies.

Not really though since you don’t HAVE to be a billionaire to participate in our governments.

Meanwhile in Russia you’re expected to front a large sum of money to certain individuals if you intend to run for public office, as well as pay off a bunch of others. Basically an unspoken deposit which means you agree to play by Putin’s rules.

>was random wageslave
Pretty sure they already were in some position of power in the KGB or some other state agencies (like the previous nationalized industry agency)

>have the blessing of the state in exchange for their cooperation.
While in the US the state has the blessing of corporation in exchange of its cooperation, so?

Ivan isn’t lying, Putin did sort of reign them in, starting with the billionaire who ran NTV. Basically he made them know if they didn’t play by Putin’s rules he could jail or kill them. So most sided with him to keep their wealth.

why don't you ask Khodorkovsky or literally any given expert on the topic, even the pro-Russia biased ones? they will all tell you that Russia is now almost exclusively a show ran by siloviki and money people are just allowed to exist and get fucked up the second they step out of the line. i don't think there's been a stronger consensus about anything Russia ever.

Oligarch implies they have power in government
They want that disconnect. They're just really really wealthy and successful people :)
Bonus: here's Jewgle definition of "oligarch"

You have no idea what you are talking about
He sent everyone who disagreed to jail or into exile, took all they had in Russia, like this guy
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Khodorkovsky
Since then, they were the ones serving him, not the other way around
I mean, they just lost most of their foreign assets and they can't do shit about it

Eh sort of. Our "oligarchs" came to power through capitalism and then corrupted the government. But by necessity they created value at some point to get rich in the first place, and their wealth is largely held in investments so they retain a vested interest in the economy.

Russian oligarchs is the term for the people who already had connections in government when communist Russia was reformed into capitalist Russian Federation, who essentially stole wealth from the state of Russia because they were in the right place at the right time when state-owned industries and assets became privatized and had to go to someone.

It's a fairly unique situation that made the corruption happen faster and to a more extreme degree, preventing the newly formed country from ever really getting to prosper from the start. Western oligarchy results in a slow decay as their influence grows over time.

there's literally no difference, most if not all of the english language is purposefully designed to replace physical reality in your mind and make you like one of those freakish grabbing hands from a Hieronymus Bosch painting

Cute that you think politicians are more than front men for the real power

>It's debatable how much that applies to western billionaires
It really isn't. All you have to do is look at the elite bloodline families that are members of the Council on Foreign Relations, Chatham House, the WEF, Bilderberg and the rest of the Round Table Group network. Then look at how many high level public officials are members of these same networks. Then you just need to prove the significance of these groups as it relates to designing and implementing governmental policy. Once you've done all that, which you easily find if you really want to, then you've proven that there's really no meaningful or practical difference between the "oligarchs" in Russia and those that are in the west. In fact, Russian officials and elites belongs to the same Round Table network that western politicians and billionaires belong to.

Their silly superstitions versus (((our))) sacred religion, their barbaric wars versus (((our))) freedom fighting, their criminal drug cartels versus (((our))) intelligence agencies, …

Our oligarchs love brown people and fags so they are better than Russian oligarchs

because its a word that the russkies took over and made synonymous with their super rich

in german youd talk about a
Magnat, Industriekapitän or a Mogul

>some guy bought low and sold high
>this is morally reprehensible to me, a jew
If people are selling shares in the state gas company for loafs of bread are you a bad guy for doing the deal? The guy that's buying is the only one showing any confidence in the local economy.
He jailed a bunch of them early on. The Magnitsky act which sanctioned Russia was named after an accountant for a CIA backed "oligarch" that was funneling money out of the former Soviet union using the desperation and corruption that spread. That's the opposite of investing in the area. Basically oligarchs that strengthen their nations through local action are bad but oligarchs that exploit Russian people for their western corporations are good.

>Putin did sort of reign them in
how so? He booted a couple of oligarchs that were seemingly more aligned with the West, and allowed many more to gain power. The claim that they are beholden to Putin is an assumption, not fact.

because the washington post is owned by a billionaire

Yeah but bribes don't exist at all, right?
The US government is filled to the fucking brim with bribes.

99% of russia's wealth is in the hands of putins intimi and allies.
those people helped him in power and are now running everything that is running one way or another.
It's a very specific group that only is able to do this by backing each other up with ultimate power for putin.
you only see these structures in absolute dictatorships.

other countries just have insanely rich people, corrupt people, very smart people, influential, etc. these elite help each other out for sure but not at the levels as in russia.
