Confederation with Canada wasn't even a mistake, because we didn't vote to confederate with Canada in the first place. The referendum was rigged by both the British and Canadian governments so that Newfoundland wouldn't claim independence or later join the USA, so that the British would still technically have power over Newfoundland through Canada.

You won't find a lot of Newfies actively asking for more immigrants but you won't find a lot lot of Newfies complaining or questioning the increase of immigrants in St. Johns.

But given just the way Newfoundland is, a lot of immigrants feel uneasy coming here. Lots of people are casually/"friendly" racists, even if they don't mean it. My 90 year old grandfather never saw a black person in his life until like 2012.

And Newfoundland is still one of the few places in Canada where you still see some level of pushback against globohomo.
Not an actual movement or anything, mind you, but Newfoundland's a very isolated place with a lot of Christians and it developed its own culture over the last 300 years of relative isolation, it's not really uncommon to find people who speak against Canadian globohomo bullshit.
But Newfoundland's retarded so these very same people will still vote for Trudeau for welfare since Newfoundland is poor as fuck.
