My girlfriend's parents are peak boomer. They bought up housing during during the 08 crisis and now rent it to their own kids. They are multi millionaires all while ensuring their kids remain in poverty. They won't even do basic maintenance on the properties.

I can't speak for boomers. but as a 30 yr old who just closed on a house after going 20k over asking, I am starting to think about how the hell my kid is going to complete 20 years from now. The only thing I can do is try to try to make them smart, resourceful and have a strong work ethic. But unlike boomers, I don't plan on "your an adult now, get out of my house". I plan on building wealth that I can pass down. I currently live in a duplex that I own and plan on keeping. Right now I am renting to my gen x parents who were near homeless until they started renting from me.(they pay below market rates, and I let them live there for free many months when they have to deal with shit).

I'm closing on a house this Friday. Older house in very very small town. 185k is the cost. I worked 312, 12 hour days in the last 365 days. My dad offered me the house and land, a pile of cash, for after he died, and I told him to give it to my nephews and neices who care about money, because after living without a permanent home my entire adult life, I no longer give a single damn about materialistic anything.
