Zelensky's decisions are psychotic from a moral standpoint but perfectly rational from a realpolitik/strategic point of view. The entire western propaganda apparatus is gaslighting the global population into calling his actions (sending Ukrainians to meaningless deaths) heroic. Maximizing civilian deaths/delaying civilian evacuation seems to be working for delaying the Russian siege, so why wouldn't he continue doing it? He has been completely shielded from the negative consequences of his decisions.
On a side note, there was this post several threads ago that screencapped the following western article: cepa.org/the-next-10-days-will-decide-this-war/ Most of /chug/ ignored it because it appeared to be western propaganda that kept reiterating how much Russia is apparently losing, and I consider that a major mistake. Read between the lines. The target audience of this release is not the general NPC population that already unconditionally supports Ukraine: this is a think tank article whose target audience comprises western decision makers. This is a call for action: for western policymakers to hurry the fuck up and do something because they're running out of time. That should answer all of your questions regarding how well the west actually thinks this war is going.
