Bugging out after TEOTWAWKI is suicide unless you have a convoy of military vehicles. Then it is still probably very stupid.
You bug out before trouble hits and most likely when trouble is localized and someplace safer exists to go to. You usually intend to go back home later, since your resources are there. In such scenarios the RANGE of your vehicle is of paramount importance, far more so than fuel mileage. If you are too fucking stupid to turn of the vehicle to avoid wasting it while going nowhere for extended periods-- then you deserve to die.

i find those preper bug out vehicles cringey too, many of these are not based in easy to find reliable engines with good mileage, also many of them run on electronic diesel and high compression gasoline engines.
For a bug out just get a cheap mechanical diesel or a low compresion Gasoline truck, the inline 6 chevrolets and fords are amazing just drop the automatic transmision and get the manual also bore one of the jets in the carburaton 1mm more and add 4mm in the head so it can run on %100 ethanol.

True bugout vehicle is a Honda cg125 or cb250.
Rugged, can go on many terrains, fuel efficient, easy to maintain and repair. Downside is that you cannot carry a lot.
Motorcycles are underrated.

Let me reiterate, if your primary plan is to bug out-- you are stupid and dont really have a plan.
Further, if you intend to bug out from a city, you are likely NGMI anyway-- unless you get out early and have somewhere to go to. You will be stuck waiting in city traffic or you will get shot trying to do stupid shit like bumping people out of the way.
Electric vehicles have no range and outside if the vaporware tesla pickup-- no cargo capacity. A poor choice for a bov. However, a good choice for after a collapse to have at your bug out location if you have solar panels to charge them.
