Nobody is forced to fight. You don't need to join the defence forces. You can leave to the west of Ukraine and do nothing to help if you wish. Also, new civilians who join the territorial defence do not go to the front. They are at the rear doing logistics, security etc. and, you receive training, constant ongoing training, from medical training to weapons handling etc. And it is tried to give every person who is armed some form of military clothing, like a camo jack at least, or a tactical vest. as we receive more stuff it is distributed. As an absolute minimum atleast a yellow armbands to identify you as a combatant. So no, not indistinguishable from civilians.
Lastly, as i said, nobody is forced to do it. People want to defend and fight for their country from the russian invader. I suppose that is something you cant understand because you live in a souless pit like australia.
