I think Russians underestimated their enemy strength while overestimating their own. It's now obvious that a lot more troops were needed. I think it's completely unrealistic to expect regime change or demilitarisation now that Ukrainian government managed to hold out the initial attack

So it took them 3 weeks to encircle (not occupy) a handful of cities in the east, which is predominately Russian and will see comparatively little resistance. Ignoring the economic cost of the operation and the crumbling Russian economy, how long will it take them to occupy the rest of Ukraine? How long are Russian troops going to be stationed there? How long can the Russian economy survive cut off from the west?

My city of half a million people held out over 3.5 years. Western Aleppo held out for over a year. A complete blockade is impossible and even if there was no smuggling or stuff humanitarian corridors will remain open and some supplies will stream in. Depending on where exactly the blockade starts cities can produce tons of produce once parks and shit get turned into veggie patches and people start growing shit on their balconies.

considering kherson is the second largest dneiper crossing and that kherson and kiev are insanely good locations to hold the dneiper, ukraine simply allowing the Russians to walk around kiev (through marshes, forests, and smaller cities, in an area with poor infrastructure) and into kherson with little resistance does not indicate to me that the Ukrainian army is anywhere near being able to hold the Russians off in the field.
If the entire ukrainian army is encircled and obliterated in eastern Ukraine then occupying west ukraine will be a breeze, if it is even necessary to win the war.

it is actually the majority of the active standing army, not including any reserve forces (which we'll likely see in a few months). OP is still a faggot though as Ukraine has literally zero counter attack capability. Seige tactics are the best for Russia as they vastly outnumbered and large-scale urban warfare takes a shitload of troops. If Russia controls food, supplies, and cripples their ability to coordinate that's all they need to do.
