I wonder if the Russian state will recover from this. The Soviet Union died in part due to Afghanistan, and that ended alot better then this will. Losing this war, which even a ceasefire or a peace with some concessions will be a failure given how much of the future is at stake + how much this has cost, will be catastrophic. That and alot of the Russian identity is built around *being* strong. Russian culture is mostly dead at this point , killed by the long years of Communism, what little they had left was fawning over the army and saying RUSSIA STRONK, but now it can't even take a impoverished and weak neighbour it has been sparing with since 2014.

the contract basically makes you a temporary citizen until the war ends, so you're subject to martial law and mobilization. martial law mobilization prevents any males between the age of 18 and 60 from leaving. so it's indefinite in the sense that it applies until martial law is ended.
if you serve 3 years you get Ukrainian citizenship.
