how the fuck does that work? why would the earth be flat and casually end like that? the idea of Antarctica being the edge of the world, and being a massive mountain range makes sense. but this "actual pic" is clearly an artistic representation, because it lacks the logical walls.

There was some documentary on youtube about the problems you face when you go really deep, very interesting. The deepest right now is 12 km so it is possible, but I recall it was extremelly hard and expensive.

It's honestly a pretty neat idea. Geothermal could be reworked into something feasible everywhere rather than region-specific areas. The only problem is efficiently digging a hole that far, something that may have been solved through fusion research using these millimeter wave gyrotrons. Also this would have the benefit of retooling existing coal-fired plants to geothermal, saving huge costs using existing infrastructure.
