Yachts are questionable as a form of inflation dodging due to their extreme maintenance.

He was a drunkard, but the image of a soft guy is far from truth. In the 93 there were crimes against the state, he seized power from the people and hundreds were dead. In 94 he started th war in Chechnya for the money. In 96 he rigged the elections, he lost it, but made deals with his opponents. He was pretty universally hated and corrupt to the bone.

this is what unironically happened after the soviet union fell

embezzle military funds

They bought up or otherwise took over abandoned soviet industry,

literally one of the biggest empires of industry, just sitting there.

Entire sectors are privately owned by individuals. That's how.

Oil? A tiny handful - no heirs, no families, no shareholders. Just one guy making tens of billions per year in cash.

When the soviet union fell everyone in Russia was given part ownership of their state companies. So they finally owned the means of production like they were always promised. But they didnt have food to eat so the oligarchs bought all the profitable state companies off them for pennies.

The tl;dr is that when the soviet union collapsed, there was no one left to make sure shit kept getting made in factories, oil being refined, stuff getting disributed.
Whoever was the boss of a factory, and was so inclined, pretty much clapped his hands and said "this factory is mine now, I own it".
The "oligarchs" are the ones who had big factories, gangs of supporting employees to enforce his will, and the acumen to somehow jazz it up and make it all legal.
Putin, bless his soul, was an old KGB guy with the goods on a *lot* of the oligarchs. Some he let get rich; others he managed to have thrown in jail; and still others, well, like the competition in any mafia war, get eliminated.

Rackets. If you start up a business in Russia and it becomes successful you will be visited by people who will persuade you to sell.

Crime.

Are those big things for sails? Wouldn't it just have an engine?

>In 94 he started th war in Chechnya for the money
Can you talk more on this? He failed on purpose?

Can confirm. The shares were also taken by force. The nineties were really like wild west all over the country.

what do you do for a living since you cant afford a nice yacht?

>What do Russian Oligarchs do for a living to afford a $564 million superyacht?
They steal lives, resources and elections.

It has both.

you realize that these yatches are just a way to launder money right?
you could show up to them with a billion dollars in cash and they won't sell them to you because you aren't connected.

this this this

It has both you fucking retard.

I tried reading up on it and came to the conclusion that it was done to minimalize further instability?
like the "lesser of 2 evils" type?
can u redpill me on this

Nobody who lived under Yeltsin has a positive opinion of him.
He sold both the soul and bodies of russians to the west. There was a really grim youtube about a western crew going around in late 90s russia interviewing children which got taken down recently.

>What do Russian Oligarchs do for a living to afford a $564 million superyacht?
launder money

Nah its less a money laundering thing and more of a legitimate investment. Megayachts are basically timeshares for the elite. The owners spend maybe a month or two on them a year and then charter it out to other people for the rest of the year. The yacht will unironically turn a profit in just a few years.

Assuming that yacht was built in the not west.

I don't think I can tell a lot. There are rumours that the main problem was the oil pipe running through the Chechnya and with the inability of the Moscow mafia to compromise with the local there was no choice, but war. If the parties could fond the solution, the Chechnya would just one of many autonomous republics of Russia. The fail was due to the poor state of Russian military during the collapse of Soviet Union. And the leaders generally disregard human life. There were some nationality based tensions in all the republics of Soviet Union, especially in rural areas, in most ethnic Russians were the victims. The same with Yougoslavia. But still the ear could have been avoided.

This .-.

I'm really happy that russia economy will collapse and million of people will starve.

Greece child mortality rate increased by 14% after the greeck crisis. It means roughtly 50 more death babyes every year and they have been helped to avoid default.

The same increase in russia will lead to more than 1000 additional death babyes every year.

That's the surest way to travel it won't ever fail you
T. Sailor

Okay so it doesn't just have an engine, why? That's retarded. Looks terrible, and I don't see why anybody would want to use them.

>Andrey Melnichenko

Started in Currency Exchange in College and moved on to create MDM Bank with two other people. Bought them out and survived the 1998 Russian crash due to retaining conservative policies. Because of this MDM expanded and became massively successful because so many other competitors collapsed.
He stepped down and sold his shares in 2007 to invest into Fertilizer and Industrial assets, later getting into Coal/Energy production.

His largest companies are
>SUEK
>EuroChem
He's valued at over $15,000,000,000

In 2019 Italy awarded him the Order of the Star of Italy for humanitarian efforts and then in 2022 they Seized the boat pictured ("Sailing Yacht A") due to sanctions against Russia.

Kek.

Why do Americans dislike Oligarchs so much when they themselves are ruled by financial groups?

>Oligarchs
Liberals found a new buzzword

own a huge share in a company that sells resources which is highly evaluated, get a loan from a bank against the share to buy some expensive property in a good stable place (ELOC), the property is yours to use but also keeps a stable price and maybe even appreciates in value, get another eloc against the property, open a shell company in georgetown, buy a yacht with the eloc, sell it to your shell company "at a loss", register it there, use it for your own needs, get your shell to get an eloc against the yacht etc etc... many ways for the rich to use expensive stuff without owning them on paper and get back a fat share of money they spent on it.

>oligarchs
Kek. And in the West they are called...? Businessmen and entrepreneurs. Nice.

except for when the wind doesnt blow...

I don't have any deep knowledge of the subject apart from observing the events and stories of the participants. Chubais was the architect of Russian privatisation, but everyone considered his results a failure. Somehow he is still working as a "top manager" in state corporations. In the nineties

Same shit American oligarchs do to afford their super yachts

It does look fucking baller tho i gotta be honest.
But yeah, people buying toys for half a billion is still fucked imo
