Kind of irrelevant. The most humane war is the war that's ended as quickly and efficiently as possible. The best way to do that is to go all in. If you're gonna go to war then you should go to fucking war, you shouldn't pussyfoot around. That just gives time for the enemy to fortify and for the people you're invading to grow to hate you, assuming that they don't already (and the Ukrainians did).

There is no virtue in the way Russia is fighting this war, especially seeing as, to the surprise of absolutely no one, they're having to resort to shelling cities full of civilians (the very crimes they accused Zelenskiy of comitting against ethnic Russians in Donbas) and causing large numbers of civilian casualties in order to make progress.

If you're gonna end up killing a whole lot of civilians anyway, why not do it quickly, right at the start, so that you can achieve your objective, end the war, and start sorting out what the peace is going to look like?
