I'm sure a distributed, open ledger verifying ownership of a document or something can be useful, but it will take a while to get there. NFTs were created at one of the greatest speculative manias in history, while also one of the greatest times of wealth inequality at least in recent history, so the kind of people that adopted it could only think of "ugly apes on the blockchain lol". It would be neat if I could have my car's title or the deed to my property as an NFT and didn't have to go through a government office to transfer it to someone else.
