Yes, the Ukranians wanted to be part of russia. Western powers wanted Ukraine to be an early warning signal if Russia decided to go empire building again. They wanted to be able to place missile systems in Ukraine and use it as a shield. So the US orchestrated a coup (one of hundreds the CIA has orchestrated in the last century) and installed a puppet who would push them towards a direction of joining NATO.

This is why Ukraine had a civil war by the way. A civil war that you will never see mentioned in western media.

This is an agreement to allow US oversight on all laboratories researching dangerous pathogens, which, by definition, COULD be used as biological weapons. Ukrainians and the governing body voted to approve a EU-Ukraine economic deal, Russia pressured their puppet Yanukovych to stop the deal and choose closer ties with Russia and the eurasian economic sphere. Ukrainian govt then voted to remove Yanukovych and Russia invaded/annexed Crimea.

Any Forums will tell you the CIA overthrew Yanukovych but there's no proof of this, just conjecture and the usual unsourced articles/jpgs. we do know russia tried to assassinate the Yanukovych's predecessor in the mid 2000s, though.
