The thing that makes le clean energy meme so fucking stupid, AT PRESENT, is how inefficient it is. Would I like if we could just produce energy from clean sources entirely, and save oil exclusively for production of intermediary products (plastics, etc.)? Sure, yes, while I don't believe in muh climate apocalypse shit it is definitely not good to pump waste products into the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels, not even arguing that. The problem is that climatefags wanna skip from step A (dependence on fossil fuels), or maybe C or D or so (dependence on fossil fuels, with some slack taken by supplementary clean energy) straight to step Z (fully renewable energy), despite the fact that we can not possibly produce the requisite amount of energy using clean energy with current technology. It's just too fucking lossy, requires too much shit like rare earth metals, etc.
My fear, and I'll grant you that maybe I'm mistaken but so be it, but everyone will spend so much time, energy, and resources building up a big network of our horribly-inefficient modern clean energy sources (wind farms, solar panels, etc.), and then whoops, five years from now we make a breakthrough that vastly increases output. Now we need to reclaim/recycle all the resources we expended, break everything down just to rebuild the slightly more efficient devices, just so what, we can do the same shit in another few years? Meanwhile how much materiel is being lost during each of these cycles?

The problem is all the renewable energy sources also have their own problems. Windmills/solar farms require huge amounts of land i.e. we need to clear forests/destroy other habitat to build them, which defeats the purpose of green energy. Windmills kill an obscene number of birds, which is also terrible for the environment. Nuclear is the best option, although there is no solution for how to deal with nuclear waste, but the low use of space and efficiency make it worth it, IMO.

There is a company making an antimony based battery that actually utilizes the waste heat to maintain the reaction. The intended purpose is long term grid storage in contrast to portable lithium batteries. If they can get going at a decent price, it won't matter what we make the electricity from as we'll be able to store it long term for when it's needed with little loss.
