I've lived in Oregon ~40 years. When you live someplace a long time, you really start to grasp the culture of the people who live there in a way the native-born can't. I've been hammered over the head continually with how out of touch many of the people who live here are. They're packing meme degrees, financially unstable across generations of their own families, and constantly looking for an "other" to pin their life disappointments on.
So the concept of Antifa sells really well up here. For the true believers, there's a sort of ingrained mysticism about it bordering on the supernatural. Before Floyd the same people were fixated on DHS I.C.E. vans swooping around through (their town) and abducting people like The Men in Black. If you look before that, it's some other absurd thing and before that, another.
Despite the grief the south gets for having "uneducated hillbillies", the level of ignorance, violence, and anti-white (for the moment) bigotry which masquerades as a kind of enlightened intellectualism puts a plain-talking yokel in overalls to shame as far as idiocy goes.

One of the not-so-secret reasons is that many of the initial members in the movement were children of leftist teachers, lawyers, and other politically-connected individuals.
